**2025 rules update**

August 19, 2025

The BCAFFL has made the decision to begin the transition towards the use of the IFAF Rule Set. This may take full effect in the spring of 2026.
Immediately, this fall 2025 season, the BCAFFL will be adjusting the current league rules to allow for the following:

  • The change from 3-downs to 4-downs: You will have 4 downs from scrimmage to reach half and, 4 downs to score. All other rules regarding the downs and distance will be applied from the Football Canada rule book for 2025.
  • No run-zone at mid field: There will be NO run plays allowed from 5 yards on either side of the center point of the field. This is in addition to the NO RUN ZONE at the 5 yard line at each end. No fake hand-offs are permitted in these zones. All other rules pertaining to the NO RUN ZONE will be applied from the Football Canada rule book for 2025.
